Lutheran Services
Lutheran Services is one of Queensland’s longest-established and most diverse aged care and community service providers. The organisation draws on the rich Lutheran tradition of care for the individual, family and community. Together with the congregations that founded Lutheran Services, the organisation has served the people and communities of Queensland since 1935.
Lutheran Services offers services, support and accommodation for older people, young people, families, individuals living with disabilities or mental health concerns, and those experiencing domestic and family violence.
As a non-for-profit organisation, Lutheran Services reinvests in the people and places they serve and in those who deliver their service. Some 1,900 dedicated Lutheran Services staff serve more than 6,000 Queenslanders across 25 sites.
In 2021, Lutheran Services implemented the PainChek® digital pain assessment solution to support several key outcomes for residents, staff, and the organisation, including:
- Meeting Aged Care Quality and Safety Standards
- Supporting digital transformation and the use of technology to support clinical workflows
- Enhancing clinical governance around data collection and reporting to improve pain management practice and outcomes for residents
- Improving pain identification, follow-up, and management
- Providing an assessment tool that can be used to identify pain indicators when a resident experiences challenges in communicating their pain
- Supporting system innovation, clinical service delivery processes, compliance, and clinical governance monitoring around the assessment and management of pain
Lutheran Services’s Clinical Systems Partner, Melissa Blakemore said,
“Working with the PainChek team to project manage and implement PainChek® at Lutheran Services has been a pleasure. The professionalism, education, and support offered have been key to ensuring the successful adoption of new digital technology and that the use of PainChek® is embedded into clinical practice at Lutheran Services. Lutheran Services: Organisational Level
“The implementation of PainChek® at Lutheran Services has contributed to improved pain management practice. The application supports the clinical team in conducting pain assessment at the point of care. Identifying pain early means that it can be better managed.”
– Melissa Blakemore, Clinical Systems Partner at Lutheran Services
Lutheran Services: Northern Region
“PainChek® has had a significant positive impact. For residents, it has shown we’re able to consistently deliver targeted pain management interventions, which supports effective management of complex pain. For our staff, PainChek® provides them with a platform that easily translates what they are seeing in assessments that is then documented according to best practice. And for the site, it enables us to ensure we are not only meeting, but exceeding quality standards for pain management.”
– Stephanie Wilson, Regional Manager at Lutheran Services
Lutheran Services: Southern Region
“PainChek® is a great tool as it enables clinicians to assess pain even in residents with dementia or other forms of cognitive impairment, and takes into consideration that not all residents present the same way in relation to pain. It has improved clinical outcomes in the form of early recognition, ongoing assessment, and prompt escalation for pain management review.”
– Melanie Wagner, Chief Clinician and Nurse Practitioner at Lutheran Services
