Pain Assessment Guidelines and Frameworks

PainChek® is pleased to advise of a new publication focused on PainChek’s technology in international journal ‘Frontiers in Psychiatry’.

The peer reviewed publication, titled “Clinical impact of a multifaceted intervention aimed at decreasing distress in people living with dementia: evaluating the Reconnect program,” was conducted in conjunction with Orchard Care Homes and a research team led by its Group Director of Quality, Cheryl Baird.

This paper represents the first instance of PainChek’s technology and research being published in an overseas peer-reviewed journal.

The full study is available for viewing at here.

Key points:

  • Reconnect Program: The program, developed by Orchard Care Homes, employs various interventions to enhance the quality of life for individuals with dementia. These include increasing meaningful occupation and engagement, improving pain identification and management, and reducing constipation.
  • Reported Outcomes & Findings on Pain Management: Enhanced pain management, using the PainChek system, is reported to correlate with improved well-being of residents. Improvements were observed in residents’ engagement in activities, access to outdoor spaces, pain management, and constipation relief. The study also confirms a reduction in the use of psychotropic medications and safeguarding events related to behavior.
  • Implications for Healthcare: The findings of the study suggest this could lead to personalized care approaches in dementia care. This could include reducing long term distress, more efficient medication use and helping to reduce healthcare costs and improve safety and quality of life for affected individuals.

This publication and its findings reflect PainChek’s commitment to advancing understanding and improving practices in this area.

PainChek® CEO Philip Daffas said:
