Pain Assessment Guidelines and Frameworks

A PainChek-related publication, Faces of Pain in Dementia: Learnings from a Real-World Study Using a Technology-Enabled Pain Assessment Tool,[1] was recently published which was the first study of its kind to:

  • use real-world data to characterise pain-related facial expressions in people living with dementia
  • demonstrate patterns of facial expression associated with different intensities of pain.

Over 22,000 pain assessments were conducted on over 3,000 patients.

The study adds to our understanding and confirms the usefulness of AI-enabled real-time facial analysis during the assessment of pain in people living with dementia.
