The PainChek® Universal solution enables best-practice pain management for all people, everywhere

1. Giving a voice to those who cannot verbalise their pain:

  • Using AI technology to support a modern pain assessment framework, PainChek® will identify the presence of pain even when it’s not obvious; PainChek® is fast and easy to use. The smart phone camera looks at the person’s face then analyses the images using AI driven facial recognition. It automatically recognises and records facial muscle movements indicative of pain.
  • The caregiver then uses PainChek®’s guided framework to observe and record pain related behaviours such as movement and how pain is vocalised by the person.
  • Finally, PainChek® calculates an overall pain score and stores the result. This outcome forms the evidence base supporting the implementation of pain management interventions, and for the ongoing monitoring of their effectiveness over time.

2. Documenting the pain scores of those who can self-report:

  • For those who can reliably articulate their pain, the gold standard of pain assessment is the self-report of the individual.
  • To support this, PainChek® has incorporated a Numerical Rating Scale (NRS), into the PainChek® application. A PainChek® NRS captures the key details of an assessment, including time, date and activity status – ‘at rest’ or ‘post movement’.
  • The assessor simply asks the person a guided question regarding their pain and documents their response. PainChek® then converts the numerical response into an overall pain rating.

3. Helping to better manage pain for those whose ability to communicate fluctuates:

  • For many people, cognitive state and ability to reliably report pain will fluctuate day-to-day or even hour-to-hour.
  • In these cases, your team will be able to select the best assessment tool to use, right at the point of care.
  • If you’re not sure whether someone’s self-report is reliable or not, we recommend that a PainChek® assessment be conducted. An NRS self-report can also be completed, to add yet another data-point to support your clinical decision-making.
