ANZ: Growing presence in residential and home care

PainChek continues to expand across aged care in Australia and New Zealand, with 8,028 new licences this quarter – the highest number in recent years. One of Australia’s largest aged care providers accounted for 5,000 of these. Fronditha Care completed a successful pilot and is preparing to expand to four additional sites.

We’re also seeing strong interest from home care providers, who are using PainChek® to support older people living independently. The home care sector now represents 3,000 contracted licences, a promising new growth area.

In addition, data from our clients shows significant clinical benefits, including:

    • 54% reduction in opioid medication use
    • 82% reduction in “as needed” opioid use
    • 8% reduction in psychotropic medication use

We also recently launched HealthChek, a co-designed client reporting tool that benchmarks pain management quality across internal and sector metrics. Early adopter feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.

UK: Sector-wide progress and real-world impact

PainChek’s footprint in the UK continues to grow, with over 42,000 licences contracted across residential care settings.

This quarter alone saw 2,400 new licences implemented, reflecting strong momentum and high retention across services. Over 2.5 million assessments have now been completed in the UK, with more than 200,000 assessments now being conducted each month.

New and expanded clients this quarter include:

    • Caring Homes, a provider supporting 1,000+ residents
    • Harbour Healthcare, which added 1,089 licences following a major care home acquisition
    • Lovett Care, now covering 1,575 beds

We’re also expanding our partnership with clients including Elder Homes, Erskine and Signature Senior Lifestyle, which recently expanded use of PainChek® beyond dementia-specific care to support all residents. This reflects growing confidence in the value PainChek® brings to all care environments.

Our UK operations team has focused on streamlining onboarding and improving the customer journey — leading to faster adoption and earlier recognition of outcomes. This targeted support has demonstrated significant clinical benefits amongst providers, including:

    • Reduced falls
    • 40% fewer ambulance call-outs
    • 50% reduction in hospital admissions after falls (reported by Dovehaven Care Group)

In healthcare settings, PainChek® is being used in community hospitals including those under Dumfries and Galloway Health Board, where usage has increased by 58%. This has resulted in lower stress and distress among patients, and more appropriate medication use.

At Edinburgh Hospital, a pilot with Trakcare confirmed that nurses are saving time using PainChek®. Rollout is now expanding to include Stress and Distress Nurses, with results to be shared later this year.

Argyll and Bute Council in Scotland is the latest local authority to promote the adoption of PainChek®. The council has funded 420 PainChek® licences for 12 care homes, with plans to expand to community hospitals in the future.

A successful project with the Scottish Care Inspectorate showed how PainChek® helped identify previously unrecognised pain and improve medication use, nutrition, mood and wellbeing. The Care Inspectorate is now developing a proposal for wider adoption of PainChek® in care homes serving up to 38,000 residents.

Dovehaven Care Group, supporting over 1,100 residents, has also seen strong results using PainChek®, including fewer falls and hospital admissions, and decreased stress and distress and behavioural altercations. Dovehaven’s CEO shared their experience in a recent interview – watch it here.

North America: Preparing to launch in the US, growing demand in Canada

PainChek has submitted its final application to the US FDA for regulatory clearance. If successful, PainChek® will become the first FDA-cleared pain assessment app for use with people who can’t reliably self-report pain – such as those living with dementia.

With 2.9 million people in long-term care in the US, the need is significant. We’ve already secured major integration partnerships with PointClickCare and Eldermark, reaching over 1.3 million beds. These partnerships mean that once clearance is received, PainChek will be ready for rollout at scale.

We have also engaged with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to align PainChek® with key care quality and reimbursement measures, helping providers meet compliance requirements while improving care outcomes.

In Canada, PainChek now has over 1,000 licences under long-term agreements, with customers using PainChek® alongside their existing clinical systems like PointClickCare.

Two recent successful pilot programs have led to expanded implementation, reflecting strong confidence in PainChek®’s impact:

    • Bethany Seniors has expanded its implementation, rolling out PainChek to two additional floors
    • Perley Health is extending use across two more sites

These expansions reflect the value clients are seeing in clinical outcomes, workflow improvements and ease of implementation.

In addition, David Allsopp, PainChek’s Head of Business Development, has relocated to Canada to accelerate growth and strengthen provider support.

PainChek® Infant: Positive response as rollout begins

The PainChek Infant app is live on the Apple App Store in Australia, with a staged rollout designed to build trust and long-term value.

The app uses facial analysis technology to help parents and caregivers identify and monitor signs of pain in babies aged 1-12 months – offering reassurance and confidence. With over 400 million pre-verbal children globally, and 150 million born to first-time parents each year, the need is clear.

This quarter, we introduced:

    • A free trial model (30 days or 3 assessments)
    • Simplified pricing: $19.99/month, $29.99/3 months, or $99.99 lifetime access
    • A refreshed website and app experience, including new onboarding support, clearer instructions and a gifting option
    • User testing and feedback loop to inform product and marketing improvements

Our aim is sustainable adoption – reaching 1,000 paid users while gathering real feedback and delivering value for parents and caregivers at every stage. Android development is underway, and a PR campaign will launch in August to broaden awareness among new and expectant parents.

Integrations: Streamlining workflows for better care

PainChek® assessments are increasingly integrated into clinical workflows, helping care providers save time, improve documentation and deliver more consistent care.

This quarter, we launched new integrations in the UK with:

    • Carebeans, dedicated care management system for planning, records and rostering, which is enhanced by QCS policies, audits and training
    • Log my Care, a cloud-based CMS that digitises care management for home and residential care providers

New and enhanced integrations are coming soon with platforms including PCS, Nourish, eCase, Whzan and MPS Connect, supporting wider adoption and delivering even more value for our clients.

With an active integration in place, PainChek® assessments flow automatically into a provider’s care management, medication, or records system, helping care teams avoid double handling and reduce admin. This allows staff to work from a single, centralised platform – making pain management faster, more consistent and easier to access throughout the day.

As part of our new Minimum Viable Integration (MVI) standard, we’re focused on eliminating manual data entry within clinical workflows – supporting both care quality and efficiency.

Research and development: Improving care through innovation

PainChek continues to work with hospitals, research institutes and aged care providers to explore new applications and demonstrate impact across care settings:

    • PainChek for Kids with Disabilities: A research project with Perth Children’s Hospital and The Kids Institute is underway, developing a new version of the app for non-verbal children with disabilities. The team is collecting facial data and parent insights to build and validate the tool. Due for completion in December 2026.
    • Hospital care for older adults: A study at Hollywood Private Hospital (WA) is testing PainChek® in post-operative orthopaedic wards. Staff are also using PainChek® to assess patients with cognitive impairment on general medical wards.
    • Volunteer-supported assessments: A randomised trial is exploring how volunteers can support pain assessments in frail older adults. Results are being prepared for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
    • Emergency department care: A project at two major Perth hospitals is evaluating pain assessment practices for older adults with cognitive impairment in EDs, and developing tailored clinical guidelines.
    • Germany: A validation study of PainChek® in German aged care homes is set to begin once final ethics approval is received, in partnership with the University of Applied Sciences and Arts in Bielefeld.
